Wheel Size Chart For Bicycle Computer Settings

Bicycle computers (Bontrager RideTime, Garmin Edge, Wahoo Element, Wahoo Bolt, Hammerhead Karoo, Cateye Padrone, Sigma ROX, etc.) may be paired with a speed sensor. Speed sensors may connect wirelessly via ANT+ or Bluetooth, or may connect via wired connection. Most modern speed sensors connect wirelessly, such as the Bontrager DuoTrap, Garmin Speed Sensor, and Wahoo RPM Speed Sensor.  In addition, numerous bicycle computer programs that may be run on mobile phones (RideWithGPS.com app, Strava app, Trailforks app, Komoot app, Map My Ride app, etc.) also may be wirelessly paired with such speed sensors via ANT+ or Bluetooth. The speed sensor accurately measures the number of tire rotations, which in turn allows the computer to accurately measure both speed and distance traveled. In order to accurately record the number of tire rotations, the computer must know the circumference of the bicycle’s tires. This setting is very important.  The chart below may be used to find the circumference of various size tires (in mm), which can be entered into the settings in bicycle computers and software running on mobile phones.
It should be noted that many GNSS enabled bicycle computers and/or software running on mobile phones offer a function to “auto calculate” or “auto calibrate” the tire size. That function will only be available if use of a GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, etc.) is enabled in the device’s settings. If that function exists on the device, that is generally considered more accurate and optimal compared to entering a number from the below chart.

Side note: Use of a Speed Sensor versus GNSS only
Many bicycle computers, and nearly all mobile phones running bicycle computer software can also calculate speed and distance using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) such as Global Positioning System (GPS), BeiDou, Galileo, Global'naya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS), etc. without the use of a paired speed sensor. However, contrary to popular belief, use of a paired
speed sensor provides greater speed and distance accuracy compared to relying on GNSS alone (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, etc.). This fact is widely misunderstood within the bicycling community. The explanation for this is multi-faceted and highly technical, and too detailed for inclusion in this document. Customers that desire an explanation should consult with a Crossroads Cycling Company sales associate, or read articles such as https://junipersys.com/support/article/6614 .

To use the below chart, simply locate the tire size using the first or second column, then enter the circumference (in mm) in the appropriate field in the bicycle computer's or mobile device software's settings. If your tire size is not listed, please let a Crossroads Cycling Company sales associate know, and we will be happy to calculate the circumference for you.
